AT Blog Carnival is Taking Submissions

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

grab bag cartoonJune 27 is Deadline for Submissions and ATBC #4 Goes Up on June 30th.

I am excited that the next edition of the AT Blog Carnival is ready to receive submissions. Our topic for Edition #4 is “Grab Bag”. This means that any topic of interest is open in the realm of AT. I have found submissions take on a sort of theme of their own even though we have tried to make the month’s edition be on a certain area. With the loss of the blog carnival network service because of their lack of doing anything about Captcha, we have gone to using our own blogs to share the new topic and deadline - so, if you wouldn’t mind emailing folks about it or putting a post up on it - or better yet, start a small sidebar block with the latest date and submission info , that would be great. The purpose of it is just to network with others that use, teach, train or design assistive technology. My hope is to see a community of bloggers be able to support each other with ideas, information and new friendships - so join us. I think we have had about 12 or 13 people contribute to this point. I know there are lots more out there!

New AT Blog Carnival Topic is Announced for May

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

The AT Blog Carnival Theme for May is “Synthesized Speech”.
We are now taking post submissions from blog authors on the topic “Synthesized Speech”. Send in your permalink of a post off your blog that you have already written or one you write especially for this edition. Share a story about using synthesized speech, a site or software review, your list of uses for it, humor, gripes and complaints, etc. Let us hear what you have to say about it! If you know someone that has a blog that could contribute, pass this along to them. Because I am not officially using the Blog Carnival service to invite and receive posts, your help in networking the topic, link and getting it to bloggers is crucial. Help us spread the word and build a great network of shared knowledge.

If you want to know why I have discontinued using the main blog carnival home service for our AT Blog Carnival, read Ron Graham’s post from his AccessAbility Blog on it HERE. Also, if you have an idea you would like to see for a future topic, email it or post a comment telling us. Your ideas will help!
Send the permalink of the post you want to submit to me at lonthornburg@nolimits2learning.com by Friday, May 23. The edition will go live on Monday, May 26.
The Assistive Technology Blog Carnival can be found at http://atblogcarnival.blogspot.com
where you can read past issues and read about this months theme.
I hope we hear from you!

Assistive Technology Blog Carnival Edition #2 and Tango Interview

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

It’s Update Time!

I have been slacking on this blog and I apologize. I have had a lot of irons in the fire and have been focusing on several projects that have pulled my attention away from submitting posts. I thought I might as well share them here for readers that come here only and don’t link to my other resources.

Edition #2 of the Assistive Technology Blog Carnival is taking submission from bloggers on posts that specifically relate to AT. You can read about this month’s topic and more specifics on the AT Blog Carnival blog home. The topic is “My Favorite Post I have Written on AT.” I describe the topic in more detail at the blog home. If you would like to submit but are hesitant because you don’t think you know enough, then think again. The carnival is to post anyone’s thoughts and information as it relates to the topic and AT.

The deadline to present a submission is Friday, March 25th. The Carnival edition #2 will post on the home blog site linked above on Monday March 28th.

Richard Ellenson, CEO and Designer of the Tango! speech device from Blink Twice, was interviewed by me this morning on No Limits to Learning Live - a broadcast I do from Blog Talk Radio. Check out the link to listen to the interview as Richard talks to a 10 year-old boy who recently received one of his devices. We discussed wait time as an integral part of communication with a speech device, clustering conversation topics around a subject or activity and learning how to build access. Richard is a dynamic personality - a very hunble, warm and real individual. We were honored to share. Get the interview here.

Between the Blog Carnival, My No Limits to Learning blog and the Internet talk show and work, I have been pretty busy. I see this blog as a place to address more adult issues of diability and AT as well as ideas on how to overcome adversity with positive principles. I need to do more of that kind of sharing here and will in the future. I still will want to connect all my resources together with some continuity so you will be getting some overlap, but that’s OK. I usually need reminders anyway!

All the best to you!
